By 2020, all nursing professions (general, geriatric, and pediatric nurses) will be trained together for the first two years. In the third year, you can choose an area of specialisation.
This training requires three years, accounting for a total of 2500 hours of theory and practice combined. At the end of this course, you are expected to pass a state examination. After completing your training successfully, you will have an opportunity to work in the healthcare sector.
However, this training applies only to Germany. Degrees with a specification in geriatric care or childcare are not recognised across Europe. If you are looking to work outside Germany, an examination to identify your training must be completed.State training funds the costs of generalist nursing training.
The vocational schools and the training companies receive a pro rata reimbursement of the costs of the training. This funding makes it possible for you to complete this training free of charge.

The first of April or the first October of a calendar year
Vocational schools usually start their course twice a year. The first batch begins in April and the second batch starts in October. The start of the practical phase of your training in an institution will be coordinated individually with the employer and noted in your employment contract. It is preferable to start training at the company shortly before the lessons from the vocational school begin. An apprenticeship allows you to understand the training institute and familiarise yourself with the work environment, culture, and expectations.
No training fees
The DVT to become a Pflegefachmann/ Pflegefachfrau is free of charge for you! You do not have to pay any school fees! In addition you receive a monthly training salary from your training company. The costs of generalist nursing training are financed by state training funds. From this fund, the vocational schools and the training companies receive a pro rata reimbursement of the costs of the training. Because of this, it is possible for you to complete this training free of charge.

*The work of a nurse requires commitment and dedication. Taking care of people in pain and trouble should give you deep satisfaction. You need to listen attentively to your patients to recognise and plan the care measures they require. A good nurse should be empathetic. Being a team player will be an added advantage. In this part of your training, you will learn how to help patients shape their lives individually by making the right decisions in terms of overall health.
In this area, you will learn how to treat children and adolescents with proper care. You will learn the best techniques to discuss treatment steps with children and adolescents and how to react to their responses
This step is one of the most important parts of the training. You will learn to treat people suffering from mental health problems and cognitive impairments (depression, dementia, etc.) and how to support and help them overcome their problems.
